Donald S. Griffin |

Born May 9, 1919 in San Jose, CA and passed away October 26, 2007 surrounded by his family in Carmichael, aged 88. Don was raised in San Jose, the youngest son of Frederick and Lydia Griffin. He attended Woodrow Wilson Jr. High, San Jose High, and San Jose State where he studied engineering. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and sister, his beloved first wife, Eloise Krelle Griffin, and his beloved second wife, Mary Slough Griffin. |
Don served in the Unites States Marine Corps in World War II, participating
in campaigns on Guam, the Marianas Islands, Iwo Jima, and the Volcano
Islands. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. Upon
Don’s return from the war, he married Eloise and went to work
for Standard Oil. Don and Eloise moved to Palo Alto and had a son,
Donald and a daughter, Nancy. He subsequently worked for American Standard
and Varian Associates, retiring from that firm. His first wife, Eloise,
died in 1972. |
Don married Mary in 1973 and they moved to Aptos. After his retirement,
Don served as an elected member of the Aptos/LaSelva Fire Protection
District Board of Directors, serving 16 years. The Fire District dedicated
the Board Room to Don in recognition of his service. |
Don moved to Gold River after Mary died in 2006, to be closer to
his daughter and step-son. |
Don will be remembered for his love of family. He was very proud
of his grandchildren, his love of the outdoors, working in his garden,
and his admiration for the “lads” at the fire district.
Don is survived by his son Don (Sydney), daughter Nancy (John) and
step children, Cathy (Dom), Jeff (LaVon), Lenore (Richard), Janice and Andy. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. |
A Memorial will be held Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Seascape Resort, One Seascape Resort Drive, Aptos, CA. |
